Can you replace the power steering pulley without replacing the power steering pump on 95 Bonnie?
Q. My Bonneville power steering pulley is cutting throw my timing belt and the mechanic is saying I should replace the entering power steering pump. I was wondering if I can just replace the pulley or do i have to replace the entire steering pump?

A. Can YOU? That is the question. Most pulleys are removable, but many are very difficult to remove, especially in today's (post 1985) claustrophobic engine compartments. Many items on cars that were once"maintainable", are now "replacement only" items. If the Mechanic told you to get a new one, it's probably because the labor cost of changing the pulley is equal to, or greater than, replacing the whole pump. And you would still have the probability that the pump will fail, being 13 years old and all. Keep in mind you will probably have to remove the pump in order to replace the pulley. So the clock runs pretty long here. Also, if the pulley is "cutting through your belt", (although it's not usually your timing belt, but whatever) it might… [cont.]
