How do you remove duct tape adhesive?
Q. What's the best way to get duct tape adhesive from a car dashboard? I think it's vinyl.
Asked by Deacon - Wed Nov 12 13:58:52 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm assuming you don.t want to damage your dashboard any further.I would probably try some fingernail polish remover,or a little acetone (ingredient in fingernail polish remover),or you can go buy some "Goo-Gone".It'll get rid of anything sticky. You might want to go over your dashboard with some type of interior vinyl dressing.Just to shine it back up a bit.Be careful not to scrub on your dash. You might accidentally remove the finish on it,GOOD LUCK!!!

Whats that red self adhesive letter tape called?
Q. It's a long red, self adhesive strip of tape that you put through a hand-held machine which punches letters. Its quite old school but I really need to know what the machine/tape is called.

A. I think you are looking for the Dymo Pro Express Handheld Embosser. You turn the dial to spell the word you want to come out on the adhesive strip?!?! The links are not working so I can't post it here... So, go to www.officedepot.com and in the search box type "handheld embosser" and you will see the item. I don't see the refill tape but I am sure you can find it somewhere on the site too. Best of luck!

A. There are companies that restore collectible comics, but you have to ask in the long run is it economically feasible. I mean is the book worth the cost you will incur.

How can I remove tape adhesive from a mirror?
Q. We got a mirror a few months ago that the company put masking tape on in a big "X." They ripped it off quickly, leaving behind bits and pieces (some big, some small) of masking tape. It has since hardened so much that Goo Gone and WD-40 won't even touch it. It's not like I can even start to peel any of it off, it's that hard. What else can I use to take it off? Do I need to scrape it? Will that damage the mirror?

A. Decorate them with color, glitter & glue and use as Christmas Decorations. Possibly with names of employees on each individual one. Or better yet, (god I always have such great ideas)(sometimes I can't get over how cleaver I am), decorate with glitter and put name of an employee on each one and put their christmas bonus check inside. Isn't that wonderful. Go ahead - - tell me how great I am. No, don't tell me. I already know it. Wait, I have an even better...no, that's been done already. Good Luck.

When matting a print, what kind of tape/adhesive should I use?
Q. I do amateur matting & framing for my wife's art. Usually I just use masking tape to secure the art to the matt. We are starting to get more professional and I don't want to use something that could damage the art. Is there any certain tape that I should get to make sure the art is safe yet secure?
Asked by Archy - Thu Feb 19 20:03:24 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I highly suggest tape which is acid free. It is also called "archival." Another thing to consider is to have tape which is not permanent because of restoration purposes. If a print or picture needs to be cleaned or restored many years down the road, art conservators need to take things apart. A collector may also wish to change the matting as well. If you are familiar with the brand "Scotch," they have a scrap booking tape which is available at Micheal's Craft store. It's acid free and non-permanent. Many of my friend who matt their prints use this tape. I do also. If you can find and buy this tape at a smaller locally owned art store, even better. They often have better service and actually learn your name. That's all, best of luck.

Where can I get the pink self-adhesive drywall tape that I see being used on renovations?
Q. I have seen this used at the local hospital where they are renovating. It is used to "connect" two pieces of drywall but I can't find it anywhere, not even on the net. It is self-adhesive, pink, appears to have some fibers woven into it. Any help would be appreciated.
Asked by K - Mon May 18 13:53:13 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Are you talking about mesh tape? It has adhesive on one side. You can get it at any drywall supply store. Maybe at a hardware store. It doesn't have to be pink. Unless you are talking about something else . . . Lot's of people use it just like drywall (paper) tape. I don't like it as good as paper-tape.

A. Call some local antique restorers. For something as important as this, I wouldn't mess with it. I would also send the bill to the idiots that packed it, they are the ones responsible.

A. One product you can use is "Gaffers Tape". It was invented to be used in the motion picture industry to tape down cables, then be removed without leaving any sticky residue on the wires. It is strong like duct tape, but will not leave behind the residue that duct tape does. It is avalible in many colors. You can sometimes buy it at better sound system stores, or stores that sell Photo, or Video supplies.
